.: bio :.
I believe this series of words explains who I am better than any biography could. I like to think my work speaks for itself, and this bit of writing will only offer insight into the person and photographer I am.
I think that at a certain point in our lives we fail to appreciate the beauties around us. We fail to feel things on the level we once did.
I once witnessed a little child playing on the ground with rocks, and by the expressions on her face you would have thought that she truly believed these ordinary objects were extremely beautiful. Further proof of their beauty was evident by her kicking and screaming as her mother pulled her away from this world she had created and been a part of for the last few hours.
I too remember growing up experiencing such moments. I am almost certain in reflection of these moments that I actually entered into another world. Where the sound of your Mother's voice beckoning you to come inside often sounds muffled as though it was in a foreign place, and did not belong in this world you had created. This is probably the very reason our Mothers end up shouting our names so many times before we actually respond.
I have recounted such experiences to somehow give you an idea as to why I create pictures. It is not for the money (although the money supplies me with the means to continue as an artist). It is for the glimpse--the glimpse into a world I believed I had lost when responsibilities and knowledge taught me to believe that such practices were childish and not worth my time. I love the moments. I love the evenings and the mornings when I am able to see things and experience life as though I had never experienced it before. It is as though I have never been witness to a sunrise or a sunset, because they are all so unique and beautiful. Some of my favorite moments are when I can bathe in the morning light as it scatters through the dew creating stars in a green field that nature turns gold for an instant.
I love photography because it helps me to reinvent myself, to appreciate the things I never thought I would truly appreciate again. I enjoy being the observer and relinquishing my right to be the initiator, which is probably why I don't do more portraiture. I love the people, places and things I am able to capture for others through my art.
Thanks for listening.
